In our climate, both heat pumps and furnaces can keep a home toasty — but they get there very differently, and the right choice depends on your home, your fuel access, and your budget.
Heat pumps
A heat pump heats and cools from one system and is remarkably efficient in the Triangle's moderate winters. Modern inverter models perform well even on cold mornings and can dramatically cut energy bills compared to electric strip heat.
Furnaces
A gas furnace delivers powerful, fast heat and shines in the coldest snaps. If you have natural gas service, a high-efficiency furnace paired with an AC can be the most comfortable setup.
